From Milan to Lake Maggiore
One of the starting points of your trip on Lake Maggiore is certainly Milan. Your travel can start from the city centre or from Malpensa or Linate Airports to reach in a short time the first tour stop-over, Arona, where you can find Villa Ponti, built on a rock ramp (Rocca) around 1760 by the rich merchant Bartolomeo Pertossi.
Then there is Stresa, the pearl of Lake Maggiore as well as an elegant international touristic centre whose fame is due to some prestigious travellers such as Stendhal, Chateaubriand, Dumas and Lord Byron, who chose this place as “ buen retiro”. Nowadays in this location take place several meetings, conventions and musical events and from it you can even catch the boat to reach the Borromean Islands (Isola Bella, Isola Madre,Isola dei Pescatori).
An interesting solution: move for a while from Lake Maggiore and visit Lake D’Orta, which is placed westwards, precisely in the province of Novara. This stretch of water is also called Lake Cusio. Are there some good reasons to reach this destination? The climate is mild, the landscape picturesque and Orta village has a medieval charm which does not go unobserved.

Lake Maggiore is also the ideal place where to plan a trip devoted to food and wine traditions, with tastes of typical specialties.
A good idea could be leaving from Varese or Milan, maybe from Malpensa or Linate Airports, towards Angera lakeside for a happy hour.
Here we can arrange for a visit to a famous distillery where you can taste the local grappa : in these cases a souvenir is absolutely necessary. After that we will go to Ranco where we will have a lunch in one of the most famous local restaurants, 1 Michelin star, with a wonderful view on Lake Maggiore.
